8 Great Tips for Awesome Content Writing
So you’ve got a new startup, and you’ve assembled a great team, and you feel completely ready to get your place on the map. After all, it’s been your dream for years to sell your unique, exciting service, and now that everything’s ready, it’s time to get the word out. The problem is, though, that as you research your competitors and other startups out there, you realize that one of the most important things you have to work on is your blog. Your online presence. Your brand and your voice. In other words, you have to focus on your words.
But for many startups, writing content well can be quite the challenge. After all, if everyone on your team knows more about credit cards and bank transfers than they know about using the right hashtags to attract your ideal consumers, then you’ve got a problem. Luckily, however, there are some strategies that can help you out, and fast.
What’s in a name? Well, apparently, a lot. After all, whenever any potential website visitor is doing a Google search and your t pops up, the first thing they’re going to see is the title of the blog post, along with the first few words of the content itself. But your title being interesting isn’t enough. In addition, you’re going to want to ensure that you use attention-grabbing words both in your title and the content that comes after it. 3) Utilize SEO–but don’t overdo it
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of those words that a lot of people throw around–but that doesn’t mean everyone knows how it works. Essentially, it’s about using the right keywords to match with the searches that your ideal consumers are completing, and using other strategies to outrank other sites on a Google search. But it’s more complicated than it looks on the surface. So it’s worth taking a free training course (such as this one available for free from HubSpot)–and reviewing what mistakes you may be making already.
Write. Short. Sentences. We cannot emphasize this enough. Readers’ attention spans are only going to last so long, especially when they’re reading a large number of articles online. If you’re lucky, they’ll scan your article. Just think about it–when was the last time you read an article all the way through? So you’ll want to keep your sentences short, and break up your article with relevant media to keep readers interested.
For the very reason mentioned in the last point–that it takes real concentrated effort for any reader to finish reading an article–you’re going to want to break up your article with lists and . Otherwise, you’ll want to ensure you break up your content every couple paragraphs to keep the content organized and the reader interested.
Images are another great way to break up content. These images can grab reader’s attention from the very beginning, by popping up with your title when shared on social media platform such as Facebook–and, additionally, provide additional information that helps your reader understand something (for example, a graph). Of course, however great your content is, if it’s not geared toward your ideal consumer, then you’re not going to be getting the right readers at all.
