There are 3 theories we came up with –
(1) For every 3 steps you take, you will meet a person who is currently working in a digital or social media agency or has ever worked in one.
(2) Almost every graduate would like to work in a digital or social media agency (not knowing the crazy working hours, think more than 12 hours. Crazy, but we know!)
(3) And almost every smart person will pick at least one of the niche to work on and start their own agency

Ø Because being in the digital sphere is the easiest way to earn your first income.
Ø Social media has become a great channel to market any form of businesses
Ø The internet is much less social media.
Ø If you have that expertise, leverage off it.

And this creates a problem for most business owners. They don’t actually know what is going on. You could fall under the following category:

Category #1: You are not very sure what a digital marketing agency covers for you because almost all the agencies that we have met, even freelancers, has a specific niche in what they are doing.

Category #2: You don’t even know what digital marketing is, vaguely, but not all. Because it is just too confusing for you to comprehend what it really is.

Category #3: You don’t even bother as Google is your best friend. You just Google search and find one vendor and hope he succeeds

Category #4: The many functions of digital marketing……… What is that? I know I need to do it, but I don’t know how.

What does a digital marketing agency do?

Digital marketing agency does the opposite of what traditional marketing agency does. They focus more on “Above-the-line” marketing where mass media is usually involved and are more results-based focus. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is part of search engine marketing (SEM) and it helps to optimize your website to get you better rankings in the search results. SEM is the marketing process with a goal to gain more visibility in search engines either by getting free traffic or paid traffic. SEM traffic is considered important because source of traffic is targeted. With more traffic, sales will be generated.

A journey of a thousand sites begins with a single click. The first impression of your landing page will determine whether you get to retain a customer or lose em. Always ensure that your website is optimise to be user-friendly with easy website navigation. Do note that the average human attention span is only 3 seconds before they start to lose interest.

How do you know if the digital agency is good at what they are doing?

It is hard to gauge. You need someone who understands all these 3 aspects, marketing, business, and also technically trained. You can have one or the other, if you have someone who understands marketing, then you have to be the one who understands your business well, and finds someone who is technically trained. Of course, a good agency will be able to look from your point of view and come up with a strategy which works for the business. You need to remember, not all businesses require digital marketing. But most business will require digital presence at some point of time.

At which point do you require digital marketing?

You will only require digital marketing if your industry has emerged into the digital sphere. If it hasn’t but you have innovated your business model to do so, then only it may be feasible. Social media marketing campaigns usually centre around establishing a social media presence on major platforms by creating shareable content and advertorials and cultivating customer feedback throughout the campaign through surveys and contests. Social media marketing is perceived as a more targeted type of advertising and is therefore believed to be very effective in creating brand awareness.

There are many different social media marketing platforms in Singapore, but the most common dominator is Facebook Marketing. With 70% of the Singaporean population mostly on Facebook.

But before you embark on any social media marketing, you must first do a proper research and understand the demographics of the different social media platforms.
